Tea picking
Withering
Rolling/Fermenting
Drying

Eternitea specialises in three primary methods of tea production:

CTC (crush, tear, curl)

This method involves crushing, tearing, and curling the tea leaves, resulting in finely graded leaves that enhance the tea’s aroma and colour. It is primarily used for black tea and is popular in tea bag production.

Orthodox

This method follows the traditional process of plucking, withering, rolling, oxidation, drying, and grading. It preserves the authenticity of the tea leaves while offering a harmonious blend of tea flavours. Production of this tea is handled with great care and delicacy

Green Tea

Freshly plucked leaves undergo a meticulous process of withering, steaming, rolling, drying, and grading. Green tea production does not involve fermentation to retain the green colour and distinctive flavour of the leaves. Instead, they are steamed to preserve their rich antioxidant levels.

The Nilgiris Hills, a majestic range in southern India, are renowned for their breathtaking landscapes and, importantly, for producing some of the world’s most exquisite teas.

This region, often referred to as the “Blue Mountains,” is blessed with a unique microclimate that is ideal for tea cultivation.

The Nilgiris teas, grown in a unique environment of high altitude, abundant rainfall, and mild climate, have a distinct flavour profile, characterised by bright, aromatic, and floral notes. These qualities distinguish them from other Indian teas like Assam or Darjeeling.

The teas are known for their brisk, flavourful taste, golden hue, and versatility, suitable for various preparations. The tea gardens in the Nilgiris, integral to the region’s beauty and tea heritage, contribute to the area’s reputation in the global tea industry.

Drip Irrigation:

Our tea gardens benefit from state-of-the-art drip irrigation systems. This efficient method of water delivery ensures that each plant receives just the right amount of hydration, conserving this precious resource while maintaining optimal growth conditions for our tea bushes.

Sprinklers:

To further support the health of our tea plants, we employ modern sprinkler systems. These systems evenly distribute moisture across the fields, promoting lush growth while minimising water wastage.

People

our commitment to tea extends beyond the fields and into the lives of the people who make it all possible. Since 1996, we’ve run a school for the children of our farmers, making education accessible and empowering for the younger generation.

we work with small local farmers who maintain modest tea plantations in the surrounding region. This partnership not only supports their livelihoods but also enriches the tradition of tea farming in the Nilgiris, while fostering a sense of community and shared dedication to the art of tea
